We've Found Us A Bigot To Exploit !

We're familiar with the drill now, whether the subject is racism/racialism, the misogyny of the GOP or any other of a thousand ways to exploit, distort, corrupt any issue or cause create a completely false national narrative by distortion, misrepresentation or creation of a story where none exists.

Take the recent case of Memories Pizza, in Walkerton, Indiana population 2,144 at the 2010 Census for instance. Indiana Governor Pence signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act into law (RFRA), there had to be a way to represent the “reprehensible” bigotry of Indiana citizens and small town bigotry, there just HAD to be … so Alyssa Marino ABC 57 set out to find herself a small town business bigot.

WALKERTON, Ind. -A small-town pizza shop is saying they agree with Governor Pence and the signing of the controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The O'Connor family, who owns Memories Pizza, says they have a right to believe in their religion and protect those ideals. “If a gay couple came in and wanted us to provide pizzas for their wedding, we would have to say no,” says Crystal O'Connor of Memories Pizza. She and her family are standing firm in their beliefs. The O'Connors have owned Memories Pizza in Walkerton for 9 years. It's a small-town business, with small-town ideals. “We are a Christian establishment,” says O'Connor. The O'Connor family prides themselves in owning a business that reflects their religious beliefs. “We're not discriminating against anyone, that's just our belief and anyone has the right to believe in anything,” says O'Connor.

In fairness Alyssa attempted some unbiased reporting of the reaction to her "story" the very next day, but the damage had already been done to Memories Pizza, and the reaction was predictable and swift. An active and vicious campaign had blossomed on the company Yelp page and other media and social networking sites. Just make sure the story runs, no matter the cost, or the distortion. Surely Indiana has more Pizza shops to chose from if you are gay couple planing a wedding and make the odd choice to have pizza catered to your wedding, and it wasn't even a gay couple seeking such services, it was a news-babe seeking a big scoop. Memories Pizza of course closed their doors in response to the public backlash, and a huge campaign on Go Fund Me has raised nearly $1 million to help the owners pick up the pieces.

Fresh out of the “Putting the shoe on the other foot department” we have the following.

It kinda puts things in perspective doesn't it? Or have I been eating paint chips again?
